imPress Press on Manicure Review

Hey Everyone!

So if you have watched my Influenster.com video, you know that I am a huge fan of Influenster.  In a nutshell, they are a company that selects members according to their participation to receive free boxes of a variety of products in exchange for feedback (Starting in 2012 you must be invited to become a member).

One of the products my "Holiday Voxbox" that I received was a package of fake nails from Broadway Nails that works a little bit differently.  They came in the cute packaging pictured above in a set of 24 differently sized nails.  The number they give you is really very helpful, as each one is a different size so you will be able to find a very close fit to your actual nails.  Also, you can use some of the leftover nails (although they might be the leftover sizes) to replace damaged nails later on.

The nails are very easy to apply.  All you need to do is swab your nails with the included alcohol pad to wipe away any oils.  Then it's as easy as choosing the correct nail sizes, peeling off the backing to expose the sticky section, and carefully pressing them over your nails.  I was impressed (No pun intended) by the overall look of these nails.  They have a very nice finish and the red color which I received was perfect for the holidays.  Another pro is that they are very customizable.  Not only because of the extensive sizes, but it's also easy to clip and file them to achieve the desired shape and length.

One thing that I think could be improved upon is this products lasting power.  On the second day my first nail began to detach and I then pulled it off the rest of the way, because I found it to be distracting and bothersome.  I tried to make my manicure last by replacing nails as they became loose with the alternate sizes, trying to make them work.  This bought me an extra day of these beautiful nails, but by the end of the third day they weren't looking their best so I removed them all.

The verdict:  This is not a bad product at all, in fact I would highly recommend them for special occasions.  They look beautiful and I'm sure that you could rely on them to get you through a single event.  This manicure costs around $7, much below the usual rate of a salon manicure.  They are also great for people like me who don't like to take the time to shape, trim, and buff their nails.  This product will give you the instant perfect manicure.  My one complaint would be the product lifespan.

I do want to say thank you to both Influenster and Broadway Nails for giving me the chance to review this product for all of you!

Until next time,
Evy <3

***Although it was not purchased by myself, I can guarantee that this review is completely reflective of my own opinion on the product ***

Christmas Outfit of the Day

How fast Christmas passes us by... It's something anticipated all year long and in a blink of an eye, it's gone.  To preserve the festive spirit for just a little while longer, I wanted to share with you what I wore on Christmas day to get in the holiday spirit.

Last minute DIY gift bags

For all of you Christmas wrapping procrastinators out there (I'm with ya) I thought I'd share this really personal gift bag idea that I first tried a few years ago.  It can be rather time consuming, but here are some reasons you might want to consider it for this year:
1.  It's ecofriendly (reusable, from recycled material)
2.  It feels so great to give someone a gift that you really put a lot of work into.
3.  It feels great to receive a gift that is so personal.

So I just thought it would be fun to sort of try something new, and start a new vlogging channel. Now those of you who watch my beauty videos might not be as interested in this channel, but this is going to be mainly just an outlet for me to talk about other aspects of my life than my interest in the fashion world. Guilt-free Bread Substitutes

Moderation is the key to just about any diet.  "Too much of anything is not a good thing" is a great health tip to live by.  This is why I am loving the new low calorie bread trends.  I can now indulge on burgers on a regular basis, as well as fixing myself a healthier breakfast or a good old-fashioned sandwich.  I now keep my pantry fully stocked with these healthier options:

1.  Earthgrains 100% Natural Wheat Thin Buns (100 Calories) - I feel healthy and satisfied when I pair these buns with a Vegetarian Morningstar Chicken Patty

2.  Thomas' Whole Grain Bagel Thins (110 Calories) - I pair one of these with some low fat cream cheese and some fresh fruit to kick start my day with a hearty meal.

3.  La Tortilla Factory Whole Wheat Tortillas (100 Calories) - I am a sucker for bean and cheese burritos, so I can demolish a pack of tortillas like no other.  I was surprised when I realized how many calories a tortilla could pack, as thin as they are.  The great thing about these tortillas is that as large as they are, they carry less calories than most tortillas of a much smaller size.  More for less?  Sign me up!

4.  Sarah Lee 100% Multi Grain Bread (45 Calories) - Yes, these bread slices are smaller and thinner than your average slice, but your waistline and conscience will thank you later.

Although these substitutes aren't all that you should rely on to maintain a healthy diet, every little bit helps.  You can be healthier with these small changes and barely notice.  As a side note, I purchase all of these items from Raley's supermarkets and to my knowledge they are available at most grocery stores.  Happy eating!

Take a chill pill.

So right now I am taking my own advice and dropping the flash cards, closing the books, and just taking a chill pill.  I know that a lot of other people right now must be having the same problem, constantly stressing over dreaded finals.  Unfortunately, there comes a time where you develop the largest brain cramp EVER and the best thing to do is to just relax.

My biggest suggestion for quick relaxation session is guided meditation.  So cut yourself some slack and take a quick 30 minutes to an hour break and check these out:

Iphone App:  Hypnosis Customizable Pack

This app is just a couple bucks, and it's great for those quick little breaks.  As suggested by the title it can be customized to your own needs. Choose your own length, goal (release test anxiety, take a power nap, quit smoking, lose weight, etc) , and background music and prepare to feel that inevitable finals brain cramp melt away.

My all time favorite hypnosis CD is available on itunes by Erick Brown Hypnosis and is titled Achieve Your Goals:  Gain Confidence Using Self Hypnosis & Guided Meditation.  His voice is very soothing, along with all of the background noises.  This album comes equipped with 6 tracks geared towards different relaxation exercises.  Feel free to relax for a good 40 minutes, or if you could just use a quick pick-me-up use the Guided Meditation track for 10 minutes.  Can't possibly break away from the books? Relax while you're sleeping with the "Dreaming Your Future"  track.  If you would rather focus on a different goal than gaining confidence, Erick Brown has a whole variety of meditation CDs available.

Well... back to work I go.  :)

That time of the semester...

Hey Everyone!

I am so so so sorry that I haven't been blogging as regularly.  Unfortunately, it's that time in the semester where students everywhere are cracking down catching up on reading, mulling over notes, and creating millions of flashcards.  Finals.  For this reason I am crawling into my little cave away from the world for a few weeks.  After finals are over, I will be back in full force!  Good luck to all of you diligent students out there!

Here are a few new videos to tide you over...

Pretty in Purple -Tutorial-

Hey Everyone!

So I just finished uploading this new makeup tutorial.  This look is all about having fun with bright colors.  Purple is my FAVORITE color so of course I had to use it :)  In the video I mention that the liners used are from Cargo's swimmable collection, only available in summer.  I am including swatches of each of the liners used so that you are able to match them to other brands.  My recommendation would be Make Up Forever liners.

I hope you like this tutorial and let me know what you think!

Until next time,

Get Inspired

Defining your own style is a constant process, not an end point.  Your life is constantly evolving and shaping who you are as a person.  Let that shine through!

Find pictures of family members, magazine cuttings, or use art and poetry for inspiration and make your own personal wall/ collage of style inspiration.  It's fun, crafty, and easy.

The photo above is my wall (door) of inspiration.  Every time I'm flipping through a magazine and am inspired by a fashion photograph I clip out the page and paste it to my door.  Later I'll come glance at the wall to help recreate an outfit or a makeup look.

Mission of the day:  Be inspired!

Walk the Liner - Best in liquid liner

It's no surprise that this season liquid liner is in.  The perfect cat eye can look perfectly sophisticated, polished, and seductive.  A few years back this was a staple product in my makeup collection, something that completed my look daily.  The black liner pen is still one of my favorite makeup items.  From experience, these particular brands will give you the cleanest line out there.

Stila - Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner ($20) remains my favorite liquid liner out there.  Yes, it is on the pricier side, but many times it can be found for cheaper within product bundles (sometimes found at Nordstrom Rack, Costco, and occasionally at Sephora and Ulta).  This product creates the smoothest, blackest line.  With the precise pen point you can go for a subtle line or darken it for a bolder more dramatic look.  This liner lasts all day and is slow to run out.

*drugstore find*  Palladio - Eye Inks Eyeliner ($5.99 at Ulta) is my drugstore alternative to the Stila liner.  It's small size makes it easy to hold and control along with other attributes of the Stila liner.

MAC - Blacktrack Fluidliner is the industry standard for all of you who prefer the gel liner.  Although I hear there are drugstore brands out there that will help you achieve the same look, I haven't tried most of them.  Have you tested another gel liner?  Let me know!

Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof liquid eyeliner in Perversion - I usually prefer the use of a pen liner, but this brush come to the perfect point and is fine enough to execute the cat eye perfectly.  It is easy to control for a liner brush, and unlike most pens dries fast leaving little to no mess.

-New Tutorial- Bridal Makeup

Hey Everyone!

So I finally got around to filming another tutorial!  This one was particularly important for me to film, because it was my first video requested by one of my subscribers (super exciting!).  A big trend in bridal fashion right now is to skip the makeup artist and do it yourself.  Even Kate Middleton did her own makeup at the royal wedding.  Bridal makeup is so subjective that there is no right and wrong way to apply it.  My take on the look is a more natural glow-y version of yourself.

Here are some of my bridal makeup tips:
1.  Use a full coverage foundation for FLAWLESS wedding photographs
2.  Add just a dab of luminizer to your foundation to look perfectly glow-y
3.  ALWAYS use waterproof mascara for those emotional moments
4.  Minimize the gloss.  Better yet, go with a lip stain or lip pencil to ensure long lasting color.  Also I'm sure your husband will appreciate a goop free kiss ;)
5.  Invest in a great setting spray to make your makeup last all night long.  On such a busy day, you don't want to have to worry about reapplying.

Have a request?  Don't be shy!  My videos are for you, so don't hesitate to shoot me a request/comment. :)

True Red - Beauty Blurb

Never underestimate the power of the bright red lip.  Do you only have five minutes to look work/party ready?  Just go with some concealer and powder, a coat of mascara, some bright red lips and you are ready to go!  This is the quickest way to look polished in my book.  This look will work well this season as fresh bare skin and the red lip look are fresh and current. Anyone can pull off this fun look.  It's a bold statement, but paired with a neutral palette can look polished, trendy, and confident.

My personal favorite red would be Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella .  It's a bit richer in color and would probably work best for the darker of complexions.  Another Nars color would be the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon girl.  More of a Mac fan?  Go with the lipstick color Russian Red.

Workout Jams!

Hi Everyone,

I think most people can agree that the most difficult part about exercising (especially for me) is actually getting motivated to get off of the couch and start moving!  Once you've got that much covered, you've won half the battle.  I'm not talking to you about exercise necessarily as a weight loss measure, but I firmly believe that it's an important daily activity for anyone.  Stretching out and using your body can help you in your beauty quest by boosting your overall health, moods, confidence, and yes... toning your body along with other great benefits.  Do you have even an extra 10 minutes a day?  Put it to some goods use!  Exercise doesn't necessarily have to be going to the gym or taking a jog; it can be something fun like throwing a dance party in your room (Take a cue from Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30), playing with your pets, or dragging your friends to Zumba.  You just want to get your body moving.  If i'm being honest, I would be a complete couch potato if my job didn't require me to be on my feet dancing on average for about 5 hours 6 days per week.

My number one workout tip for all of you would be to turn up the tunes!  Blast your favorite catchy songs and you won't be able to sit still.  Just listening to music that you love can get your heart rate pumping faster and inspire you to get up and move.  I wanted to leave all of you with my top 10 go to workout playlist which will hopefully inspire you to make your own.

1.  One Week by Barenaked Ladies
2.  Hey Mama by Black Eyed Peas (The ultimate dance song)
3.  American Boy Feat. Kanye West by Estelle
4.  Bulletproof by La Roux (I don't know how to sit still while listening to this one)
5.  Americano by Lady Gaga (Queen of dance music... Dance party anyone?)
6.  PYT by Michael Jackson
7.  Black and Gold by Sam Sparro
8.  Give it Up to Me by Shakira ft Lil Wayne (Up for a challenge?  Dance like Shakira :P)
9.  Undercover Martyn by Two Door Cinema Club (For all of you hipsters out there)
10.  Starstrukk by 3OH!3

Be sure to comment with your top 10 or even top 1!

Until next time...

Glee Series: Rachel Berry

Confession #893:  I am a complete Glee addict, but then again who isn't?  I was sitting on my computer one night watching a rerun on Hulu.com while simultaneously fake shopping on the forever 21 website when I had an idea.  Why don't I fake shop for someone else's style?  That's when it hit me how different all of the women of Glees' styles are.  From that point on I was determined to create this series on my blog. Who better to start with than the show's leading lady Miss Rachel Berry (Lea Michele)?

Thinking back on all three seasons of Glee, Rachel's style is definitely characterized as girly, preppy, colorful, patterned, and uniquely her own.  A various array of shirts with bows, cuddly animals, and puffy sleeves have shown up through out the seasons, along with her other staple items such as pleats, plaid, flats,  short skirts, and knee socks.  Taking Rachel's signature style into account, this is the outfit that I came up with:
I love the fun print and cute animal detailing!
Forever 21 ($19.80)
Forever 21 ($10.50) - The cute button detailing and short length really screamed Rachel Berry

Amazon.com ($8.95)  A Rachel trademark

Franco Sarto Celia Penny Loafers ($69.95 at DSW) Functional and preppy

Forever 21 ($16.80)
Old Navy ($3.50)

And how would a Miss Berry outfit ever be complete without her signature gold star?
Forever 21 ($1.50)

Looking forward to putting together my next Glee outfit!  Until next time...

Cold Season Help!

It has been MUCH too long since my last blog post!  For the last week I've been in the theater for an EXHAUSTING run of my ballet company's production of Swan Lake.  I have been so run down that my routine has become a cycle of eat... school... eat... dance... eat.... sleep... repeat.  As rewarding as all that hard-work was, I am now back to a more normal schedule where I can hopefully spend much more time bringing you tutorials and any other beauty related madness that comes to mind.

This particular blog post is dedicated to all of you busy hardworking people that can't seem to find enough hours in the day, let alone lose them to the flu or just your terrible common cold.  The changing seasons combined with a lack of sleep and excess stress can take a toll on all of you diligent workers (take it from someone with recent experience).  Don't you just wish there was a magical pill that gave you the superpower of an unbeatable immune system?  Well until that time comes, I have two of the next best solutions: Zicam and Emergen-c.

I am telling you... these two items are the closest I have ever come to immune system magic!  Both are most likely available at your local grocery store.  Zicam functions by giving your body a super dose of Zinc, which helps your immune system to fight the common cold.  My one suggestion, go for the nose or mouth spray.  Yes, this product works miracles... no, it does NOT taste delicious.  Stay far away from rapid melts unless your store is out of everything else.

Now for Emergen-c... This miracle in a fizzy drink mix packet works by infusing your system with a super dose of vitamins including, you guessed it, vitamin c.  Like Zicam, this is no treat for your taste buds.  My advice: avoid the orange flavor and mix this with 7-up or Sprite instead of water.

So there's my little bit of advice for the day!  I hope this helps everyone reading this to stay healthy in their hectic lives.  :)

Urban Decay Cheek Tint Review

Hello again!

As promised in my Zooey Deschanel makeup tutorial, I'm reviewing the new Urban Decay Glide-on Cheek Tint in Quickie.  Although I am a self-professed Urban Decay fanatic, I didn't actually buy this product.  The last time I was at Ulta I received a sample of this product after replenishing my extensive Urban Decay eyeshadow collection.  I'm excited to say that this blush rocked my world!  At first glance the color appeared WAY too pink for my taste, but to my surprise when applied it blended to a much more subdued color.  The color itself is buildable and can be worn as a subtle cheek color or a much brighter hue.  The shade reminds me of a very youthful, healthy, and cheerful color.  Coming from someone with pretty oily skin, this cheek tint is also very lightweight and has no stickiness to the touch.  I think that I almost prefer this formula to a regular powder blush, because it looks much fresher and dewier and is also much easier to control in the application (I just used my fingers).  I'm a pretty busy girl and I don't like to reapply my makeup very much throughout the day and it's nice to know that there's a blush I can count on to stay put for hours.  This blush also seems to be fragrance free.  The only downside that I can tell is that price.  Coming up with $24.00 for a blush can be a bit steep, but for a the quality and size of the product I think that it would be well worth it.

This blush probably won't replace my go-to shade, but I'll definitely get some good use out of it. This product is going to the top of my wishlist :)

New Zooey Deschanel Inspired Easy Tutorial

Hey guys!

I'm so excited about to have a second tutorial up this week.  I woke up this morning and was just really inspired to film a video.  I picked this look because it's so simple and feminine.  This would be a great look for anyone that maybe doesn't like to look "made-up"  but is just looking for a little extra polish.  I based the look off this picture of ever-so-talented singer/actress Zooey Deschanel:

Enjoy!  ...And as always let me know what you think :)

Miss Glambitious 2011

Hello to everyone out there in cyberland!

So... While I was busy making my youtube beauty video rounds last week, I stumbled upon an unwatched Elle and Blaire Fowler video.  As probably most of the youtube beauty community knows, they are hosting a contest along with Mark cosmetics giving away tons of prizes and promoting an all around great message.  Finally when week three came around I got my booty in gear and filmed a super fun entry.  I'm not expecting to win or anything, but I thought it would just be a fun practice since I recently posted my first beauty video.  Anyway, I wanted to leave you with my video response and I wanted to encourage everyone else to film a video too.  If you do, please leave me a link to the video.  I would love love love to watch everyone's responses :)

xoxo Talk to you soon!

Trending Now: Great Lengths

Don’t get me wrong, I am a summer girl.  Icecream… swimming… sun…  What more could a girl ask for?  By the time fall comes around,  I am still stuck in summer, dragging my heels, and soaking up every last little ray of sun possible.  Soon enough there comes a time when there is no denying it… fall has arrived, and with it comes homework, all-nighters, mid-terms, and rain; however, I’m forgetting to mention one crucial element of fall…

Fall fashion!  This is where I stop being a Debbie Downer, pick up my heels, and learn to leave summer behind.  I am a sucker for fall fashion.  Layering, rich colors, outerwear, all things that I associate with the beginning of fall.  Sometimes a girl just has to put her best face forward, put the bikini back in the drawer, and cozy up in a warm sweater.

I already posted a blog a few weeks ago on the ever so sweet polka dot trend.  Today I wanted to introduce a trend that many of you have already probably spotted around town.  Drumroll… The maxi skirt!  It’s been awhile since this floor grazing trend last made an appearance.  Looking through my closet the only floor length skirt I can find is a white tiered skirt last worn in the eighth grade (yes… I am a pack rat).  Time for a wardrobe update?  I think yes.

Here are some of the cuter maxi skirt options that I found on my online fashion quest:

From Lulus.com ($39), this is just your basic wardrobe essential.  http://www.lulus.com/products/descending-purple-maxi-skirt/32019.html

Also from Lulus.com ($73) – Ooh La La!  This sexier style caught my eye right off the bat.  Not only is it maxi, but it also incorporates another fast growing fall trend, daring slits.  This would be perfect for a night out on the town.

Forever 21 ($22.80) – I wish I’d seen this skirt before I wrote my polka dot post!  The polka dots just give this skirt such a fun feminine twist.  I think it’s safe to call this skirt a fall essential.  It incorporates so many fall trends: rust red, maxi, polka dotted, sheer.  What more could a girl ask for?  One thing I want to know is if you guys think this sheer skirt is too daring.  Would you wear this?

As always, feel free to comment with any other fabulous finds!  J

Much Love,

Evy

Fashion On a Budget / Outfit of the Day

Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Free People, Betsey Johnson...  All of these stores have clothes to DIE FOR, however; at least for me, I barely own any clothing items from them.  Almost all of the high end pieces that I do own are from discounted stores (Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Ross, Nordstrom Rack) or are the cheaper version of the same items from stores like Forever 21.  As a starving artist and college student, I am a definite penny pincher and can't help but to love a deal!  Another great cheaper option for shopping is used clothing stores.  You can always count on finding something original that no one else will have... and can you say vintage?  Vintage is in!  I even prefer shopping at discounted stores most of the time.  There's nothing better than being a unique, fashionable, and smart shopper.

I just wanted to show you guys an example of an outfit that I really love, all of which was very affordable.  I'll tell you where I purchased all the items, but unfortunately you probably won't be able to find the pieces anymore (That's the fun of shopping on the cheap right?  Originality!)

Please forgive my messy apartment!
Grey Floral Tank Top - Target ($5)
Light Pink Blouse - TJ Maxx
Lace Vest - TJ Maxx
Distressed Jeans - American Eagle Outfitters (On sale of course!)
Boots - Forever 21
Necklace - This is actually my mom's necklace from when she was a kid.  Vintage jewelry is my absolute favorite.  I haven't bought a piece of jewelry from the mall in forever!

Let me know what you thought about this post. Should I do more outfit posts like this?  If so, would you like another photo post or a video?  xoxo Peace!

Attention Ladies!  Polka dots are back!  I know that I'll be celebrating that news.  I was at Barnes & Noble the other day flipping through every fashion magazine that I could get my hands on, when I noticed the common theme.  It's playful, fun, and retro.  What more could a girl ask for?  Although I haven't quite mastered retro yet, I look forward to the challenge this fall.  I know that polka dots are a bold statement, but I truly believe that anyone can pull it off.  If you're not ready for such a daring statement, it's easy to achieve this look through simple touches like a pair of polka dot shoes, a belt, scarf, or bag.  I pulled a few of my favorite polka dot pieces that I found:

Modcloth (I found so many polka dots here)
This skirt is too fun!  ($49.99)

I'm in love with this dress, although the price is a bit steep ($74.99)
